October 2004 visit - Page 2

A group of abandoned children poses for a photo.

A single classroom is the reading and recreation area for 90 children. There are no formal education classes.

The dorm rooms are clean and comfortable. However, the upper beds do not have bars or restraints to prevent children from falling out of the bed.

The play area is small for 90 children.

The pantry seems to be well stocked. However, there is only one refrigerator for 90 children.

Fresh fruit, including these papayas, are an important part of the children's diet. Some of the older girls are helping with the preparation.

Prior to our visit the stove was not fully functional. This photo shows that one of the burners is missing - simply "worn-out" from age and use.

Part of the donated money was spent to purchase a new burner assembly for the stove. Now all 4 burners are functional. This is the only stove for the entire facility.
